Dover/Vienna System: Psychometric Testing for Skills and Recruitment

The Dover/Vienna System is an Austrian-developed psychometric testing concept, designed to assess trait-specific suitability for training rather than train individuals. Introduced to the South African mining community in 1982, it has since been adapted to local norms.

This basic skills-competency measurement tool evaluates fundamental practical abilities such as hand-eye and foot coordination, manual coordination, and responses to stimuli in various environmental conditions. It also measures auditory discrimination, the estimation of speed and direction of moving objects, decision-making abilities, and concentration levels under monotonous circumstances. The system is particularly valuable in recruitment, helping to narrow down large applicant pools for job suitability.
